What We Do
Our mission at the Home for Chronically Ill Persons is multifaceted, involving a commitment to eradicating the presence of chronically ill individuals from roads. Through strategic advocacy, collaboration with key stakeholders, policy enhancement, comprehensive medical care, community engagement, and resource mobilization via our Charity Fund, we work tirelessly to ensure the well-being, rehabilitation, and reintegration of those under our care.
Our Story
The Home for Chronically Ill Persons is not just an initiative; it’s a narrative of compassion and commitment. Conceived in 2016 by the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent De Paul, in partnership with the National Orientation Agency, Rivers State, and the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt, our journey began on February 12, 2016. From the inauguration of the Strategic Committee on June 14, 2016, to the formation of sub-committees, advocacy visits, and the drafting of bills, our story reflects resilience and progress. Our volunteers and sponsors have played pivotal roles in our success, contributing to the establishment of a Project Secretariat, acquisition of temporary shelters, and initiation of crucial medical assessments.
Our Objectives
- Sensitize the public about the challenges faced by chronically ill persons on the roads.
- Educate families, communities, and organizations on their responsibilities towards the care of these individuals.
- Strengthen existing policies and mechanisms for the welfare of chronically ill persons.
- Provide medical care, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society for these individuals.
- Advocate for relevant legislation to eliminate the presence of chronically ill persons on the roads.

Our Goal
Building public-private partnerships is at the heart of our mission. We aim to eradicate the presence of chronically ill persons on our roads through collaboration with stakeholders, including government agencies, faith-based organizations, civil society organizations, and non-governmental organizations.
